The District currently has 137 primary schools (Government aided – 84 and private/community – 53). The total enrollment in Government-aided schools stand at 86,906 (Male 46,484, Female 40,422). There are 17 Secondary Schools (Government aided – 7 and private – 10) and 64 Early Child Development centres. The are seven (7) Non Formal Education Centres. There are four (4) renown Business Technical Vocational Education Training Institutions (BTVET) i.e. Comboni Technical – Angal, Women Vocational tTraining Centre – Goli, Smart-up Youth Training Centre and Akaba Vocational School.
Regarding infrastructure, the District has 574 permanent classrooms and 743 latrine stances for learners while 164 are for teachers. The District has got 12,025 desks.
Staffing
The District has got 1,023 teachers in Primary Schools and 161 Secondary School teachers. The current staff gap for primary schools is 689.
Physical Education and Sports
The District has been participating in ball games and athletics at zonal, county, district up to national levels. However the district sports office is incapacitated by the inadequacy of sports equipment. The most needed is a district sports recreation centre/stadium and transport.
Special Needs Education.
There is one (1) unit for Special Needs Education (Angal Girls Primary School Annex for the blinds). Children with special needs are also enrolled in various primary schools in the district. However their normal learning process is hindered due to lack or inadequate required learning facilities.
